Authenticity, Breakthroughs, Growth, Value, Personal Brand

Summary

In today’s episode, we’ll discuss a word that has been used so often, it’s almost lost any sense of authenticity. Ironically, that word is … authenticity! But why is it important, and does it mean you cannot be kind and tactful or should stop improving yourself? We’ll discuss that in our Thought of the Day. And in our interview segment, we’ll be joined by Dixie Gillaspie, better known as “Dixie Dynamite,” an author and coach who has helped many people understand their authentic value and translate that to a personal brand. That and more on today’s show.

Bob's Thought of the Day

  • What does it mean to be authentic? Gandhi is credited with defining integrity this way: When everything you think, feel, say, and do are in alignment. That definition also applies to authenticity.
  • All the business skills, technical skills, and people skills are worthless if you don’t approach life from your true, authentic core. When you do, people want to be involved with you personally and in business. Being authentic is a great strategy for business as well as life.
  • We have two types of authentic value: 1) Intrinsic value simply by virtue of being born, and 2) Market value, which is the combination of strengths, traits, talents, and characteristics that allow us to add value to the marketplace.
  • There is a difference between learning from someone and trying to become them. Adapt, don’t adopt. Learn from others’ wisdom, but stay true to your authentic core.

Interview with Dixie Gillaspie

  • When you’re facing a brick wall, you have to get some distance between you and the wall. You can’t see the picture when you’re in the frame.
  • Every entrepreneur will face a “crossroads” point in their journey. They must ask, “What am I going to do? How am I going to provide value?” Your authenticity is a key aspect of the value you provide. No one else can do exactly what you can. This is a key to your personal brand.
  • Your authenticity comes through in your brand and positioning. It’s your promise to the world, your platform.
  • Blasting through walls is not inauthentic. In fact, it requires you getting honest with yourself at the deepest level.
